The project involved the installation of a new cylinder and key in an exterior door. The job was completed quickly and efficiently and with no damage to the door or lock.
The client had a problem with their locks. They wanted the locks rekeyed because they had lost their keys. We were able to help them out by providing them with new lock pins, cylinders, and keys that would allow them full access to their house again. Our Rekeying Process
To begin, we used a screwdriver to remove the screws that are holding the lock in place. Then, we run it along the edge of the trim until we found where it is attached. Once we found the spot, we immediately removed them. After that, we gently pulled on the trim piece until it comes off with one hand while sliding off any nails with our other hand.
Next, we removed the screws that hold the cylinder to its frame. Then, we removed the cam and lever from their respective holes in the lock casing. We then removed the door latch by pulling it away from its plunger arm. Finally, we used a wrench to loosen any retaining screws holding together the existing thumb turn with the strike plate.
Now, we’re ready to select the new key pin and master wafers. The key pins are small metal pieces that fit into the keyway, so they have to be selected based on their size and shape. The master wafers control which pins can move up and down when you turn your lockset, so we need to select it as well. Now it’s time to reassemble the lock. Once we were done putting everything back together, we tested it out to make sure that all the pins are aligned properly and that each part of the key fits in its specific spot. Everything worked perfectly and we’re done!
